Bavani Arunasalam

Chief Data Scientist

Bavani leads the Data Science function at Lorica Health. In this role, she is responsible for the development of analytics and AI tools that form the core of Lorica's product platforms. She has contributed to the development Lorica Health’s products including HIBIS, I+Plus, Nemo and Gamma. Bavani has over ten years of experience in the field of Information Technology, holding positions in research, education and commercial organisations. Bavani has proven expertise in the health industry domain, data science, mathematics and statistics. Prior to joining Lorica, Bavani worked as a Post Doctorate Research Fellow at the Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre.  

Bavani has a PhD in Computer Science (Sydney), MSc in Computer Science (Sydney) and BSs (First Class, Gold Medal) in Math & Statistics (Madras).

Daniel Cooper

Head of Consulting & Research

Daniel is a qualified actuary with over ten years consulting experience in the healthcare, insurance and compensation industries across public and private sectors. As Head of Consulting for Lorica Health Daniel is responsible for delivering consulting and policy services for the Healthcare sector that support our client's needs. He also supports the strategy, product development and data analytics functions that underpin Lorica Health’s business as a software solutions provider. As Head of Research, Daniel is responsible for Lorica Health’s ongoing relationship with the Digital Health CRC which involves participating in, and supporting cutting edge research to support future commercial innovation.

Daniel is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIAA), and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Actuarial Studies), Bachelor of Applied Finance and Graduate Diploma in Psychology.

 
 

Jane Coleman

Chief Financial Officer

Jane is a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years experience in finance, commercial and governance roles spanning professional and financial services, health insurance and private health provision. Most recently Jane was CFO and Company Secretary of ASX-listed dental business Pacific Smiles Group. She has also held external board positions within the finance and health sectors. Jane is Lorica Health’s Chief Financial Officer and looks forward to the challenge of supporting and driving the transformational growth opportunities ahead of Lorica. 

Jane also has an MBA and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

 
 

Luke Givney

Head of Customer Experience

Luke is a qualified lawyer with over 14 years’ experience in the Australian private health insurance (PHI) sector across a variety of roles including as a fraud investigator, managing payment integrity functions, corporate governance and company secretariat.  Luke has presented at numerous industry conferences on topics including fraud control, investigation techniques and analytics/profiling. As Head of Customer Experience, Luke is responsible for account management of Australian PHI customers and Lorica’s Payment Integrity Practice.

Luke is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, is a qualified PROSCI Change Practitioner and has post graduate qualification in investigations.

 

Mike Aitken

CEO & Managing Director

Mike Aitken is a successful entrepreneur and founder of both the CMCRC and its sister organisation SIRCA. These organisations connect the best that academia has to offer with critical industry research problems. He has a special interest in systems designed to detect fraud and measure the efficacy of market design. Examples of the former include his work establishing the SMARTS Group, a private Australian company that set the standard in real-time security market surveillance which he sold to NASDAQ in 2010. An example of the later was his work in initiating the development of the Thomson Reuters Tick History Service, a service providing tick data to the world’s academic and financial markets communities. Working across markets he is also well known for his path breaking work in the detection of fraud in health care markets, founding CMC Insurance Solutions, now Lorica Health. Mike has a PhD from the AGSM and first class honours and masters’ degrees from Massey University. In recognition of his contributions to business and academia in 1999 he was awarded the Business and Higher Education Roundtable Award for Outstanding Achievement in Collaboration in Education and Training. In 2010 he was named Ernst & Young ICT Entrepreneur of the Year, as well as NSW and Prime Minister Exporter of the Year for his work with SMARTS. In recognition of his significant service to the education, business and finance sectors of the nation, he was inducted as a member of the Order of Australia in 2014. In 2016 he was also awarded the Prime Minister’s Prize for Innovation in Science.

Paul Peterson

Head of Product & Engineering

 

Paul has 30 years of experience in both large and small companies and has led product, technology, sales, and marketing teams.  He enjoys helping small Sydney technology companies grow. Prior to Lorica Health, Paul was Head of Product and Engineering at Tyro Payments who were using to SaaS to disrupt banking and before that Nearmap who successfully used SaaS to disrupt the geospatial industry.  

Paul  has extensive experience stretching across: scaling technology businesses; decision making; leadership; talent acquisition and retention; product management; software engineering management; commercial management; customer satisfaction and retention; customer experience; product usability and UX.

Paul has a Bachelor of Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois.

 
 
 
 

Rachel Debeck

Head of People

 

Rachel is a qualified lawyer, with extensive experience in legal, operations and people leadership roles within technology, professional services and financial services companies. Most recently, Rachel was the Head of People & Commercial Affairs at BCG Digital Ventures, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Boston Consulting Group. She has also held non-executive Board positions in the education and technology sectors. As Head of People at Lorica Health, Rachel leads the company’s people strategy and programs.

Rachel has an MBA from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM) and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
